The NCEP weather model data on this page has been processed through a compression algorithm that allows high-resolution detail to be retained while substantially reducing the data size. Without compression, the HRRR composite radar reflectivity field is comprised of 1.9 million points. With compression, it's comprised of around 50 thousand, less than three percent of the total. This reduction in size allows the data to be explored on an interactive map that transitions quickly from world view to street level.
While the data size on this page has been reduced, it's still large. WiFi will give the best performance.
